As the ban on Okada and Keke Maruwa in some areas in Lagos kickstarts today, Monday 1st of February, some law enforcement operatives are seen cruising Okada to go about their daily activities in these banned areas.
Meanwhile, this unlawful act by the security operatives has been condemned by the masses, especially the affected peaple in these areas who described the government policy as a partial effort to deprive the masses of their daily earnings.
While berating the lawless gesture of the security personnel, some of the Okada Operators who could no longer go about their daily businesses expressed sadness, stating that the current policy has affected their them in catering for their family needs.
According to investigation by AFAM News, the latest policy has resulted to inconsiderable hike in transportation fare in these restricted areas.
Some passengers AFAM News was able to speak to revealed that transport fare by Danfo Drivers has increased drastically. According to them, in some areas where transport fare goes for #50, drivers now collect #100, while that of #100 now go for #150.
It would be recalled that Lagos Government had earlier announced the areas where Okada operators will be ban and the areas include; Apapa LG Apapa Iganmu LCDA Lagos Mainland LG Yaba LCDA, Surulere LG Itire-Ikate, LCDA Coker-Aguda LCDAs Ikeja LG Onigbongbo LCDAs Ojodu LCDAs Eti-Osa LG Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA Iru/Victoria Island LCDAs Lagos Island LG Lagos Island East LCDA.
