The Center For Peace And Conflict Resolution (CPCR) has condemned the wide reports of unverified information by the media on the recent EndSARS protest across the nation, AFAM NEWS reports.
Director CPCR, Dr Festus Farinu said majority of the information flying on social media platforms are not true.
CPCR also debunked the reports that it was the Nigerian soldiers who were responsible for killing of #EndSARS protesters at Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos State on Tuesday night.
In a statement signed and obtained by AFAM NEWS, Farinu said most of the information in circulation during the protest are far from the truth.
He said it is unfortunate that none of these media outlets, both new and conventional can boast of the credibility of their reportages on the Lekki killing, adding that such action by the press could be best described as a deliberate plan to discredit the Nigerian Army.
The CPCR Director while advising media Practitioners to be wary of fake news, charged them to always verify information before rushing to the press.
According to him, “the claim that the bodies of those killed were seized by soldiers is nothing but false”.
“Also, the reports that soldiers allegedly prevented ambulances from accessing the scene to take the injured persons to the hospital was a blatant lie”.
He urged the youths to calm frayed nerves as the federal government proceeds in its efforts to unravel the mystery behind the killings.
